Full-Day Tour to Eqi Glacier (Sails from June 1 to September 30)
The Eqi Glacier is one of the most active glaciers in Greenland, and a visit here is an experience that puts the forces of nature into perspective. The glacier front rises like a vertical wall of ice, several kilometres wide, and when it calves it is heard as a thunderbang across the water before huge blocks of ice crash into the sea, sending waves crashing across the fjord.
The tour goes from Ilulissat northwards through Disko Bay, past icebergs and a magnificent mountain landscape. The voyage takes 2—2½ hours each way depending on the weather, and there is plenty to see already along the way.
At the glacier we stay for about 1 hour, so you have plenty of time to experience the ice, listen to the creaks and bangs and wait for the moment when the glacier calves. How close we can get to the ice edge depends on the ice situation on the day in question, but we always keep a safe distance.
Practical Trip Information
What should I bring?
It can be cold at the glacier, even on sunny days, so dress well.
